UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville Virginia is one or our largest clinical affiliates for the Piedmont Va Community College Program of Radiography. This site has elected to make all Chest x-rays taken with the use of a Grid. Their philosophy is that the use of a Grid cleans up scatter radiation providing a better contrast which gives better detail. Although the use of a Grid increases patient dose, the finer details seen in the chest because of it's use helps Radiologists diagnose pathology leading to more critical care to patients. I would be happy to interview and write an article on this topic. I lectured on Grid use to the Virginia Society of Radiologic Technologist on this subject and they prompted me to promote this topic. Thanks!
